Perth Teacher Seminar 2011

This late afternoon program, attended by 45 teachers, offered the opportunity to explore the resources on www.NothingBeatsTheRealThing.info, which investigates how copyright, creativity and citizenship shape our society, its relevance to the curriculum and to students' everyday lives.

The seminar brought together film industry personnel and teachers from 30 schools to explore impact that acts of film & TV content theft have upon our society.

Gail Grant, CEO of IPAF presented the latest research data to help us objectively assess the impact of film and TV piracy upon our society.

Sue Taylor of Taylor Media provided a personal perspective of working in the film industry, and how the issue reduces her ability to commission and produce films — and the impact that has on the richness of film available to us as concumers.

Bob Lewis and Tim Gurry of Ryebuck Media demonstrated how the resources could be used in the classroom across the curriculum and also outlined the Youth Challenge program.

It was a great social networking event and teachers left with practical strategies and resources that they felt confident about using with their students in a variety of curriculum areas.

Further Teacher Seminar events are planned for 2012. Watch this site for details.

The program is sponsored by the Intellectual Property Awareness Foundation (IPAF).
